There are many different factors that can cause hearing loss. Hearing loss can be caused by genetics, loud noise exposure, ear infections, disease, and aging.
There are different types of hearing loss. The most prevalent hearing loss is called sensorineural (permanent) hearing loss. This type of hearing loss is typically caused by loud noise exposure, genetics, disease, and aging. Conductive (middle ear/typically temporary) hearing loss which can be caused by ear infections, middle ear fluid, deterioration of the middle ear bones, ear drum rupture. Sometimes conductive hearing loss cause be caused by impacted ear wax in the ear canal. Mixed hearing loss is another type of hearing loss which has a conductive component and a sensorineural component to the hearing loss which is commonly caused by a combination of middle ear problems and permanent hearing loss.
